When Seiju “Papa” Ifuku, the founder of Rainbow Drive-In, worked in the kitchen, he had concocted his own brand of chili pepper water for his hungry patrons. That chili pepper water is still served at Rainbow’s and continues to be a favorite among customers who like the extra heat on their chili, beef stew, fried rice or loco mocos.

Papa’s Hawaiian Chili Pepper Water is based on the original recipe by founder Seiju Ifuku. The Hawaiian chili peppers are locally sourced from a small grower in Hilo. Hubba Habanero Chili Pepper Water is a hotter version of the local-style condiment using the more intense and flavorful habanero chili.

Both Papa’s Hawaiian Chili Pepper Water ($5.95 for 12 fl. oz.) and Hubba Habanero Chili Pepper Water ($5.95 for 12 fl. oz.) are sold exclusively at RainbowTiki, the drive-in’s logo store at 3308 Kanaina Ave. in Kapahulu. These are the latest additions to a growing line of logo merchandise and food products sold by the drive-in.
